一課 ➝ 為什麼AI？/ LESSON ONE ➝ WHY AI? 為什麼選擇 AI？ 我們都知道 AI 很強大，也越來越受到關注，尤其是在台灣。那麼，作為創作者，我們該如何與 這些尖端科技對話、一起創作藝術？ AI 很容易？也很難？其實兩者都是真的。 Why AI? We know AI is powerful && popular, especially here in Taiwan. How do we create Art with new frontier technologies? is AI simultaneously easy and difficult at the same time? we begin with these big questions: why AI? why make AI Art? why try to understand frontier technologies like these? are we conspiring with nonhuman systems beyond our comprehension && control? do we need new metaphors? && if so, why? so many questions, so little time… AI is not a tool, it’s the terrain, at least culturally, AI is already the landscape && we know the following: Technology is Power Materialized Technology is Material Power Technologies reconfigure our worlds, literally recoding, rewriting, and redefining. New technologies create new instabilities && glitch the ground beneath our feet They transforming the rules by which live, becoming new ‘natures,’ or at least ‘naturalized’ in the lives of those born into their technological times AI is a current technology, or more correctly, a set of technologies whose powers are currently changing ‘how the world works,’ what is possible, and what people, especially those born within the last decade, what they, the children of our AI Era believe is ‘normal’ or ‘natural’ To learn to understand AI is to learn to understand how to navigate our world today && the shape of things to come To make art with AI, or against it,is to engage the terrain critically, creatively, intentionally AI isn't an assistant, even if it is helping us or more likely when we are helping AI to learn to understand the world. AI is an ecosystem, a ‘media environment’ in the sense that Marshall McLuhan meant when he taught us that the: ‘Medium is the Massage’ ＊The Medium is the Massage: An Inventory of Effects – Marshall McLuhan, Quentin Fiore, and Jerome Agel (1967) far from inert, not an object, but a verb, AI reprograms its own codebases on fundamentalLevels learning as it ‘becomes itself’, or, as some would say, as AI ‘comes to life’ Glitch in this context is: not failure, not crash, not collapse, not breakdown of signal into noise, but rather, Glitch is the message, a breaking open of new possibilities! && this is why we love Glitch Art, the Art of Surprise CONTINUE?
